    The tools you show are a great way to make B&W Conversion and ajustments in On1. There is one trick that I would also recommend is to put a Color Adjustment filter below the B&W filter in the filter stack. It gives you dramatically more effective controls of the conversion when you want to do something equivalent to using an on-camera color filter. I think it was a video from Blake Rudis showing this hack a few years ago and it is just as effective with the current version of On1.

    I'm unclear about using control points. Is the effect tapered off along the perimeter or hard stopped? If the circles overlap, is there doubling up of the effect? It would seem to be nearly impossible to get even coverage on a face using multiple points.

    • @WilliamBeemPhotography
      @WilliamBeemPhotography Месяц назад

      The panel for each control point will show a mask. That helps you visualize what it's doing. You can also group and ungroup different control points together. Since the purpose of different tools (brightness, Contrast, Saturation, etc.) differ, they don't interfere with each other. Each control point has a specific purpose. Use the Mask view on each control point to see what it's including or exclusing. As always, test things out, practice, and play with it to see how the results work for you.

    Thank you for the video ! I have two questions regarding the masking in Portrait AI. - Can you refine , and if so how , the original mask it created for you ? Sometimes it does a great job creating a portrait mask sometimes a little less. I would want to refine what it created . - After Portrait AI creates the initial mask , you can delete and add again (after I mess something up ). In 2024 as I go and add it seems to want to create a circle only, not the original outlined mask . What am I doing wrong ? Keep the ON1 videos coming !

      Yes, there is a refine brush in ON1, so you can use it to enhance your masks. You may want to check out my video "Discover the Magic of ON1 Photo RAW 2024 Masks to see if that helps clarify things for you.

    Hi William, thank you for doing these videos on ON1 Photo Raw 2024. I'm a hobbyist / enthusiast photographer and are using ON1 for a few versions now. I like it. My biggest issue typically is with a solid workflow. A tool is a tool, a hammer doesn't build a house. The knowledge and insights in not only how but why to do something in the sea of functionality with any tool and a solid workflow to efficiently and quickly achieve it is my big difficulty. Sometimes I get myself lost with all the things you could do. I don't edit enough on a regular basis I suppose might be one issue :).

    • @WilliamBeemPhotography
      @WilliamBeemPhotography 2 месяца назад

      I understand it can be tough to spend time getting a solid workflow. Perhaps one way to do it is to create a challenge for yourself to process 1 photo a day for 21 days.

    • @WilliamBeemPhotography
      @WilliamBeemPhotography 4 месяца назад

      That's a tricky one. I've tried using a color range in the past, but it's not always covering all parts of the skin due to light and shadow issues. The encircle brush takes more time, but will likely have the most accurate selection. Once you make the circle, you can use the Refine brush to tidy things up.

    • @jackmelnikoff

    Thank you for your helpful video. I seem to be finding that when smoothing the face, the eyes get much softer, even blurry looking. To correct this, I've been using the masking brush on the eyes, using the overlay as a guide. I thought the "Detail" slider might be the answer, but that doesn't seem to correct the eyes. Is there an alternative to having to add or subtract to the masking in order to sharpen (or at least not lose the sharpness in) the eyes? Thanks again!

    • @WilliamBeemPhotography

    My question I hope you can help answer is if you don't exceed their recommendations - as you did with the landscape by expanding it simultaneously on all sides - how true to the original resolution/DPI as well as color space and bit count (I always in 300 or 360 DPI, 16 bit and Pro Photo) will it be to the original file. Assuming we are not talking about a huge sensor? This is, of course, one weakness of Adobe's Generative AI at this point, which one can if one uses a work around such as Unmesh Dida of Piximperfect offers with his photoshop compositing plugin for Photoshop - that generates smaller sections one at a time rather than large, unacceptably blurrier swaths. I imagine eventually that Adobe, once they get all the bugs worked out that they will offer us the option of doing a preview of a replacement section and then if we wish (and are wiling to pay) will offer us the option of giving us our generation predicated on the same specs - as I listed above of 360 DPI, ProPhoto and 16 bit - at least I hope they do. If not then they are shooting themselves in the foot. I would be happy to pay for it. After all, fair is fair. I can't imagine how much bringing all of this into being must be costing them as well as to maintain and improve it. I haven't used any of the Luminar products yet but your video today is interesting to me and if they do offer a high quality, printable resolution for our generations - that would be very interesting to me. By the way, based on your results in terms of allowing it to generate what "it" thinks you want? Adobe's Generative AI is much more accurate than Luminar's - based on my experience using it since it came out. Thank you for this video. It was well put together and your "teaching manner" is very nice and easy both to listen to and follow along! I'll be back. I am subscribing to all notifications.

    • @WilliamBeemPhotography
      @WilliamBeemPhotography 4 месяца назад

      Thanks, Erik. I agree that Adobe's GenAI is more accurate. The field of generative AI is still new and I expect it to improve over time. As for how true the resolution is with GenExpand, I don't have hard numbers. It's definitely limited. At this point, I make a judgement call to see if it looks alright or not.
